after the striking debut release on nothing odd recordings found label owner sam smith sitting comfortably alongside baby ford for an exploration of subliminal house and techno, nor002 finds smith donning the alias monty the fly and expanding on his own vision for stripped-down dance music brimming with psychoactive tendencies. across the three tracks there is a diverse range of moods being drawn on, from the meditative to the mechanical, all fused together by what some might consider an obsessive eye for detail. there s meditation in the air in places, with mysterious pads and heavy splashes of reverb soaking out into some corners in the time-honoured dubwise spirit of transcendental electronic music. elsewhere brushed percussion and disembodied vocals shape out a more sinister message, lending themselves to a sound world both immersive and disorientating in one fell swoop.

the first ep from new japanese label “ugfy records”. a1 ‘atom tears’ and b2 ‘soul dancing’ are from the project ‘ugfy’ by tokyo based dj ‘you forgot’ and producer ‘yuji namiki’ who are hugely influence detroit techno, chicago house, beatdown and hip hop. these two tracks are with grooves for experienced listener, japanese sensitive melody and rough sounds mastered with a cassette tape. b1 ‘t.o.p. dance ###1 is abnormal track done by ‘nuboyuji namiki’. raw house!

undoubtedly & massive early 90s revival techno. both tracks spanning on their own full sides between several themes each - unlike much of todays poorly produced and reduced retro dance music. two other parts of this collaboration will be released on klasse wrecks and grafiti tapes respectively. blip!

as per its penchant for cyberdelic enigmas, jimmy edgars ultramajic outpost is building a core of secretive producers. after closing out 2014 with a record from unknown newcomer crystal bandito, the label will return in 2015 with an offering from semi-anonymous beatmaker aden. the tracks on tanz, which is the german word for dance, are hewn from bouncing drums, vocal yelps, glittering keys, and a few functional white noise-infused breakdowns that pack a solid dose of energy and spirit. tanz 1 lieb is a gentle intermission from the eps intense vitality, with warm and soft pads that lay the foundation for blunted percussion. from rigid pumpers to soothing textures, the tanz ep contains a range of moods to fuel human bodies on the virtual dance floors

with this first ep, s.o.n.s pays homage to the early age of electronic dance music, when techno, house and trance were friendly to each other, when tracks were full of deepness and harmonics, when drums were crazy and raw, when techno was soulful. yeah, this is all about this ep, some soulful deep techno excursions. while the a1 is an after-hours emotional weapon freely inspired by an obscure m. goddard production some will recognize, the a2 is a more straight forward electro track with dark vocals and rising chords, as they made it in detroit back in the days. on the other side of the record is a techno journey through a rainforest with pan flute, deep chords and old school bassline. plus there is a little bonus locked groove: a mere 4/4 tr909 bass drum s.o.n.s personally uses in their crazy obscure techno mixes. turquoise vinyl + foil sticker on cover, limited to 200 copies. mastered by matt colton (l.i.e.s, apron…)

if you re going to have an experience, it might as well be a luxury one. lux experience is a mysterious norwegian producer, who presents us with a selection of steamy late night disco re-edits dripping in luxury, trawling his vinyl collection for the choicest sample material. the shimmering disco boogie of doin it is a tribute to one of norway s longest living club nights, dance dance dance is a cover, not an edit, of the classy chic classic and finally u cant hide is a vintage vocal disco gem.

roadside edits are back, their first 12inch was a very limited pressing, and it sold out faster than moonshine back in the prohibition days, so they have repressed it, and for good measure they have added their foot stomping edit moonshine on the a side, its a liquid disco funk hoe down thigh slapping drunken stomp, funky and slide guitars, the odd brass stab here and there, throw in a bit of organ with some chunky pianos, add some guy laughing and we are good to go. b1 gets going with a funky disco cosmic groover with some wicked wah wah guitar, strings, effects, cool synths and tight drums, all bound to get them moving on the dance floor. b2 groove is so infectious with some sweet harmonica solos, tight bass and soaring strings that lifts this track and the crowd to cloud
